Reports: No Sign of Russian Troops Withdrawal
Russian troops and military hardware have not yet launched withdrawal from Georgia, Reuters reported early on August 19, quoting its correspondents from both sides of the border dividing Russia’s North Ossetia from breakaway South Ossetia.
Reuters said its correspondent, who spent the night on the only road linking Russia’s town of Vladikavkaz in North Ossetia with South Ossetia, he had seen no troop movements out of Georgia.
And a second Reuters correspondent who traveled along the main road in the evening on August 18 connecting the South Ossetian capital Tskhinvali with the Roki Tunnel said he had also not seen any Russian tanks or armored personnel carriers moving back along the road towards Russia.
Russian troops have also showed no sign of pull out from the Georgian proper as well last night, the Georgian media sources reported.
