New Group of Friends Meets in Poland

Georgian Foreign Minister Eka Tkeshelashvili will participate in a meeting of the New Group of Friends on Georgia in Warsaw, Poland on June 25, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported.

Top officials from the foreign ministries of Lithuania, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Sweden, Latvia, Bulgaria, as well as the NATO special representative for the South Caucasus Robert Simmons, EU special representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Mathew Bryza will participate in the meeting.

NATO-Georgia and EU-Georgia cooperation are on the agenda, according to the Georgian Foreign Ministry.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the Georgian foreign minister will hold talks with her Polish counterpart, Radosław Sikorski, and Polish President Lech Kaczynski.

The New Group of Friends, originally comprising Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria, was established in February 2005 on the initiative of Georgia. The Czech Republic joined the group in 2006.
