Ruling Party Likely to Have 120 Seats – CEC
The ruling National Movement Party will probably have about 120 seats in the 150-member parliament, according to the election results, Zurab Kachkachishvili, the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), said on May 23.
He said that results of the proportional, party-list contest will not change any more; but he did not rule out change of results in the majoritarian MP contest in some of the single-mandate constituencies if some polling stations were annulled.
According to the current results, the ruling party has won 71 out of 75 majoritarian seats.
In the proportional contest the ruling party has gained over 59% of votes which translates into at least 49 seats in the parliament.
The nine-party opposition bloc is likely to gain 14 seats under the proportional, party-list contest, plus two majoritarian MP seats.
The Christian-Democratic Party and the Labor Party will each have six seats.
Although the Republican Party has failed to clear the 5% threshold to endorse MP candidates through the party-list system, two majoritarian MP candidates of the party managed to win contest in the Tsageri and Kazbegi single-mandate constituencies.
