Sokhumi Denies Link to Bus Blast
Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh has strongly denied Tbilisi’s accusations of blowing up two buses intended for ferrying ethnic Georgians of the Gali district to Zugdidi to cast their ballot in the ongoing parliamentary elections.
“We do not need to do such things,” Bagapsh told Interfax news agency. “We do not do such things.”
Rustavi 2 TV aired a video footage showing armed Georgian policemen carrying a woman, who had a spot of blood on her back, as well as exploded buses in fire. Shooting was heard in the footage.
When commenting on this video footage, Bagapsh said at a news conference in Moscow that it was yet another “Hollywood-type stage show.”
“The Abkhaz side has nothing to do with this shooting, it occurred on the Georgian side [of the administrative border],” Ruslan Kishmaria, the Abkhaz leader’s envoy in the Gali district, said.
