Burjanadze Says Abkhaz Status Quo must be Restored

Priority now is to restore situation existing prior to Russia’s recent unilateral steps in respect of Abkhazia, Nino Burjanadze, the Parliamentary Chairperson, said.

“Status quo prior to Russia’s recent moves, involving deepening ties with Abkhazia and increasing number of its troops, is not good but it is better than the current situation,” Burjanadze, who is visiting the United States, said in comments aired by Rustavi 2 TV on May 10. “The international community should declare that Russia is the side in the conflict.”
