Tbilisi Resumes Humanitarian Aid to South Ossetia

Georgian authorities sent a convoy of humanitarian aid to the Georgian villages in the South Ossetian conflict zone for the first time in weeks. The Georgian Ministry of Agriculture delivered several hundred tons of wheat to around 4,000 families in the conflict zone, Georgian officials say.

It has been quiet in breakaway South Ossetian since August 19 after week-long overnight clashes between the Georgian troops and the South Ossetian militias, which inflicted dozens of casualties from the both sides, subsided.

Owing to this peace it became possible for Tbilisi to resume its humanitarian initiatives in the conflict zone and sent a convoy of aid to the Georgian villages of Didi Liakhvi gorge via the separatist capital Tskhinvali. Earlier, the conflicting sides agreed not to hinder free movement of people and humanitarian aid in the conflict zone.
