Georgia Returns Seized Arms to Russia

Georgian authorities handed over a couple of hundred helicopter-born unguided missiles, that have been in their possession since July 7, to the Russian authorities on July 24 at the Larsi checkpoint on the Russo-Georgian border.

Two trucks carrying weapons, which belonged to the Russian peacekeepers deployed in breakaway South Ossetian conflict zone, were confiscated by the Georgian troops on July 7, triggering protests by Moscow and the escalation of tensions in breakaway South Ossetia.

The Russian side demanded the return of the confiscated missiles back to South Ossetia. However, the Georgian side, which blames Russia for providing South Ossetian separatists with arms, refused to return the missiles back to the breakaway region.
