CoE Chairman Calls for Restraint in Russo-Georgian Tensions

Seretary General of Council of Europe (CoE) Terry Davis called on Tbilisi and Moscow ?to calm down? and ?to abstain from retaliation affecting individuals.?

“Georgia and the Russian Federation should calm down and work out a way to end their dispute in a peaceful manner? Ordinary citizens should not pay for disagreements between governments. As members of the Council of Europe, both countries are parties to the European Convention on Human Rights and therefore have the obligation to respect the human rights of everyone in their territory, not only their own citizens,” Terry Davis said in a statement issued on October 6.
