Georgia Accused of ‘Unauthorized’ Flights over S.Ossetia
A Georgian SU-25 fighter jet flew over the South Ossetian conflict zone overnight on September 29 at an altitude of 3 000 meters, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported, quoting Joint Peacekeeping Forces’ spokesman Vladimir Ivanov.
He said that eight other fighter jets flew over the conflict zone on September 27, which is “a violation of the agreements.”
A Georgian army helicopter was fired on while overflying the conflict zone on September 3.
In another report the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee said that three peacekeepers from a North Ossetian battalion were beaten up by servicemen from the Georgian Defense Ministry’s special purpose unit in the evening of September 28 near the village of Avnevi in the conflict zone.
The Georgian side has confirmed that a car carrying Russian peacekeepers was stopped for to check papers, but denied that any of the passengers were beaten up.
