Giorgadze Ally Warns of ‘Large-Scale’ Civil Disobedience

Irina Sarishvili, a leader of the political party Hope, affiliated with wanted ex-security chief Igor Giorgadze’s Justice Party, announced on September 19 the launch of an “antifascist movement” under the name Salvation.

“After the October 5 local elections we will launch a large-scale, peaceful campaign of disobedience, with one demand: the resignation of the current authorities,” Sarishvili said at a news conference on September 19.

She said that Salvation committees will be set up throughout Georgia to coordinate the campaign.

Criminal charges for plotting a coup have been brought against 13 activists from satellite parties and groups affiliated with Giorgadze’s. The accused were arrested in Tbilisi and in other Georgian towns on September 6. One activist pled guilty while the others dismissed the allegations as politically-motivated.
