Russian Foreign Minister Meets South Ossetia Leader
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met in Moscow with ?the President of South Ossetia? Eduard Kokoity on September 15 to discuss the ?alarming situation in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone,? the Russian Foreign Ministry said in an information note.
?[Lavrov and Kokoity] have expressed hope that the Georgian side will give its consent on signing an agreement with the South Ossetian side on the non-use of force? and [will give its consent] on launching the development of a joint action plan on conflict resolution, as has been agreed in frames of the Joint Control Commission,? the Russian Foreign Ministry?s information note reads.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov and Kokoity also reiterated the importance of the current Russian-led peacekeeping operation and the necessity to continue negotiations in the frames of the existing format.
