Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Meets OSCE Envoy

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgi Manjgaladze held talks with Head of the OSCE Mission to Georgia Roy Reeve on September 5, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported.

During the talks Reeve said that the implementation of economic rehabilitation projects for breakaway South Ossetia approved at an OSCE Donors Conference in Brussels will be launched in mid September, the Georgian Foreign Ministry.

Western donors have pledged a total of EURO 7,9 million for rehabilitation projects in breakaway South Ossetia.

The Georgian Deputy Foreign Ministry reiterated that the Georgian government will allocate a sum equivalent to the donors? pledge.

According to the Georgian Foreign Ministry, Giorgi Manjgaladze expressed concern about Russia?s position towards financing the projects. Russia is ready to allocate the equivalent of EURO 3 million, a significant part of which will be used to directly finance the separatist regime.

?Such an approach may lead to non-transparency in the process and give rise to serious concerns that these funds could be used for destructive purposes, in particular the purchasing of arms by separatists,? the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.
