Tbilisi Calls for Changing South Ossetia Negotiating Format

Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Merab Antadze has called for scrapping the current Russian-led negotiating format for resolving the South Ossetian conflict.

Speaking at a news conference in Tbilisi on September 4, Antadze said that the Joint Control Commission, involving negotiators from the Georgian, South Ossetian, Russian and Russia?s North Ossetian sides, should be changed into a bilateral Georgian-Ossetian arrangement where international actors will serve as guarantors.

?Georgia is proposing that a functional format be set up on the basis of bilateral dialogue, where very serious international guarantors will be presented to foster the implementation of a peace plan,? Merab Antadze said.
