Chief of Military Police Becomes Deputy Defense Minister

Chief of the Military Police Alexander Sukhitashvili was appointed as the Deputy Defense Minister, the Georgian Defense Ministry reported on August 30.

Sukhitashvili was appointed as the Chief of Military Police last year after he was sacked from the position of Shida Kartli regional police chief in March, 2005 following the arrest of several of his subordinates suspected in having links with smuggling.
