Labor Party Undecided on Election Tactics

Radical opposition Labor Party leader Shalva Natelashvili said on August 29 that his party will announce its final decision on whether to run in the October 5 local self-governance elections in two days.

?Our political council [the party?s governing body] will gather and discuss the issue and we will announce our final decision day after tomorrow [on August 31] at 1 pm,? Natelashvili told reporters on August 29.

The Labor Party has been calling for ?thwarting local elections through massive boycotting.? But Natelashvili also said that boycotting will only be effective if it is supported by the majority of the leading opposition parties.

The Republican, Conservative, Industrialist and Georgia?s Way opposition parties have already announced their intentions to run in the elections. The New Rights said they will announce a final decision after consultations with influential media and financial tycoon Badri Patarkatsishvili.

So far only the Freedom Party, led by Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, has  announced its intention to boycott elections.
