‘Group of Friends’ Discuss Abkhazia in Moscow

Diplomats from  the UN Secretary General’s Group of Friends on Georgia accredited in Moscow met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin on August 28 to discuss the situation in the Abkhaz conflict zone, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.


The UN Secretary General’s Group of Friends unites Germany, France, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom, and the United States.


“The situation in respect of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict resolution, following the deployment of the Georgian armed forces in Kodori Gorge [in breakaway Abkhazia], as well as prospects of normalization [the current tensions] and issues related with interaction between the Collective Peacekeeping Forces of the CIS and UN Observer Mission in Georgia were discussed in detail during the meeting,” an information note issues by the Russian Foreign Ministry reads.
