Saakashvili Comments on Kodori Rehabilitation

President Saakashvili said at the government?s August 15 session that he is not satisfied with the rate of ongoing rehabilitation in Kodori Gorge, and instructed the government to complete infrastructure rehabilitation in a month and a half.

?We should understand that we do not have much time to create infrastructure in Kodori Gorge. We should gather momentum – in a month and a half we should create new infrastructure in Kodori. We should build a new mini-town there; we need tens of new houses there, and we need a new airdrome there. We should also develop social infrastructure in the gorge,? Saakashvili said.

He said that Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli will be responsible for the implementation of these tasks.

?I also instruct Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili, together with the head of the Abkhaz government-in-exile to see to it that we have new infrastructure in Kodori Gorge by late September,? Saakashvili said.

“This would serve as a lesson for everyone, including the separatists, and would show Abkhazia that we can do in a month what they have been unable to do for 11 years,” he added.
