Tskhinvali Seeks for Talks between Chief Law Enforcers

The South Ossetian side plans to push forward several issues during the forthcoming session of the quadripartite Joint Control Commission (JCC) scheduled in Moscow for August 17-18, the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on August 14.

These issues include the launch of the activities of a joint working group that was set up to develop a joint program on South Ossetian conflict resolution, improve the interaction between the South Ossetian and Georgian law enforcers in the conflict zone, and organize a meeting between the Georgian and South Ossetian Interior Ministers in frames of the Joint Control Commission.

Georgian Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili”s first-ever meeting with his “counterpart” from breakaway South Ossetia, Mikhail Mindzaev, on June 22 failed to bring any tangible results.

Tbilisi plans to officially push for the revision of the decade-long Sochi agreement, also known as Dagomis agreement, which serves as the legal basis for the current Russian-led peacekeeping and negotiation arrangements for the South Ossetian conflict.
