Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Meets Abkhaz Officials

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin held talks with Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh and Foreign Minister Sergey Shamba in Sokhumi on August 7, Apsnypress news agency reported.

Following the talks Karasin told reporters that his visit to breakaway Abkhazia was triggered by the recent developments in the upper Kodori Gorge.

?The main task is to resume negotiations directed towards a peaceful resolution of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. For this purpose, it is necessary to say no to the use of force,? Apsnypress quoted Karasin as saying.

On August 8 the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister will also hold talks with Commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces Sergey Chaban.
