Tbilisi, Tskhinvali Exchange Accusations over Shooting
The Georgian and South Ossetian sides have accused each other of an incident involving an attack on a Georgian police car on August 7. Three officers were injured during the attack.
Unidentified gunmen attacked the car near the Georgian village of Avnevi, which is located to the west of Tskhinvali, the breakaway region?s capital.
?We assess the incident as one more provocation directed towards the escalation of tensions in the conflict zone with the aim of involving the Georgian side in an armed confrontation,? a statement issued by the Georgian State Minister?s press office on August 7 reads.
Meanwhile, Tskhinvali accused the Georgian side of an attempt to undermine the situation and thwart the negotiating process, according to the South Ossetian Press and Information Committee.
