No Shootout Reported in Kodori as Police Search Villages

Government forces renewed search operations early on July 27 in the villages of upper Kodori Gorge, which are currently under the authorities? control, reports say.

No shootout was reported overnight, as Emzar Kvitsiani, chief of the rebel militia group Monadire (Hunter), and about 50-60 of his fighters remain besieged by security forces in a cave near the villages of Chkhalta and Zemo Azhara, Georgian media sources reported.

Reports also say that authorities failed to hospitalize at least two injured persons from the gorge because of a bad weather conditions overnight on July 27.

Officials said late on July 26 that the police operation in the gorge is expected to be over on Thursday.
