Sokhumi Hopes Medvedev to Take ‘Resolute Step’
Foreign Minister of breakaway Abkhazia, Sergey Shamba, said he hoped Dimitri Medvedev, who was sworn in as Russia’s new President on May 7, would continue Vladimir Putin’s policy of boosting ties with Abkhazia.
“We hope that Russia, with the new President, will recognize Abkhazia, as foundation for that has already been laid by Vladimir Putin,” Shamba told Apsnipress news agency on May 7. “The new President now has to make a resolute step and we hope such a step will be undertaken.”
