CEC Agrees to Show Ruling Party’s List of MP Candidates
Central Election Commission (CEC) has agreed to show list of MP candidates of the ruling party to opposition members of commission after the late-night dispute in CEC.
The nine-party opposition bloc has alleged that the ruling party submitted only partial list of MP candidate to the CEC just minutes before the deadline expired on April 21. The opposition has also alleged that the ruling party might tried to secretly change already submitted list after Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze announced she was no longer running for the May 21 parliamentary elections. The opposition leaders and activists gathered in the CEC late on April 21 and demanded from the commission leadership to show the ruling party’s list.
After several hours of dispute the CEC agreed to show the ruling party’s list. The process, which launched after midnight, is now attended by CEC members, including those from the opposition parties, as well as by election observers from OSCE/ODIHR and The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI).
