Nine-Party Bloc Leaders Run for Majoritarian MP Seats
Three leaders of the nine-party opposition coalition – Koba Davitashvili, leader of the Party of People, Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, leader of the Freedom Party and Jondi Bagaturia, leader of the Georgian Troupe – will run in the western Georgian single-mandate constituencies of Zugdidi, Abasha and Senaki, respectively.
Pikria Chikhradze, one of the leaders of the opposition New Rights party, will run in the Telavi single-mandate constituency, where she will compete with ruling party nominee Gia Arsenishvili, former state minister in ex-President Shevardnadze’s administration and former ambassador to Austria. Dali Abashidze of the Labor Party will also run in the same constituency.
On April 18 the nine-party opposition coalition also nominated Niko Orvelashvili of the National Forum as a majoritarian candidate in the Sagarejo single-mandate constituency, and Zaza Abashidze, former director of the National Library – in the Gurjaani single-mandate constituency.
