Burjanadze Welcomes End of Hunger Strike
With the hunger strike ended, the opposition should now resume talks, Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said on March 25.
“Our major goal now is to hold elections in a democratic and transparent manner and I call on our opponents to return to the negotiating table and to agree on all the issues which will help us to hold democratic elections, which in turn will help us to take one more step towards NATO and towards the country’s reunification,” she said.
Burjanadze also expressed her “deep gratitude” towards the Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Ilia II, for “taking a very serious step” by calling on the opposition to end the hunger strike.
