Patarkatsishvili Buried in Tbilisi

Badri Patarkatsishvili, who died in Britain on February 12, was buried in Tbilisi on Thursday.

He was buried in the yard of his house – a former Wedding Palace for marriage ceremonies, which Patarkatsishvili bought from the state in 2002. Thousands were gathered outside the palace to pay tribute.

Before burial, Patarkatsishvili’s coffin was carried outside the palace as many people gathered there were unable to go inside to pay their respects.

Ilia II, the Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church, was among many high-profile figures who attended the funeral, including many opposition politicians. Gigi Ugulava, Mayor of Tbilisi, who last December described Patarkatsishvili as “a plague” personally expressed his condolences to the Patarkatsishvili family the previous day.
