Constitutional Amendments on Cabinet Initiated
Parliament on February 19 began discussion of a draft constitutional amendment envisaging a new confidence vote for the cabinet upon the election of a new parliament this spring.
According to the proposed draft constitutional amendment, the cabinet must resign as soon as the new parliament is convened, but ministers will continue performing their duties as acting ministers until a new cabinet is endorsed by Parliament. Parliament will decide on the proposed amendment in a month.
The amendment is one of 17 opposition demands outlined in a joint oppositon memorandum.
