State Minister on Russia’s Possible Reaction to Kosovo

State Minister for Reintegration Temur Iakobashvili, who deals with the separatist conflicts, said he thought Russia would not recognize Georgia’s breakaway regions after Kosovo declared independence.

“I do not think Russia will recognize Abkhazia or South Ossetia after Kosovo’s independence is recognized. There will be many unpleasant statements [made by Russian officials]. There also might be some moves by the Russian State Duma, but I believe that common sense will prevail in Russia,” Iakobashvili told reporters.
