Burjanadze Tells Opposition to be Constructive
Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze said on February 4 that the on-going talks between the opposition and the authorities precluded the need for protest rallies.
The nine-party opposition coalition said on February 4 that it would continue with its anti-Saakashvili campaign. Protest rallies would, they said, continue to be used to exert pressure on the authorities to concede to the 17 demands outlined in the joint 12-party opposition memorandum.
?I can not understand the need for demonstrations and rallies? There is no need for them,? Burjanadze told reporters on February 4. ?I want to call on everyone to continue working in a constructive manner, which has more chances of success than boycotts, rallies, confrontation or ultimata.?
