Georgian, Russian Foreign Ministers Discuss Relations

Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Bakradze held a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on January 31.

?The sides expressed a readiness to take practical steps towards the deepening of a dialogue and realization of earlier agreements,? the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

Bakradze, replacing Gela Bezhuashvili, was, along with other cabinet members, approved in his position by Parliament on January 31. According to the Russian side, he told Lavrov that the conversation, his first official engagement, was a mark of the importance he placed on Russo-Georgian relations.

For his part, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov reiterated Moscow?s readiness to work ?constructively? on improving bilateral relations.

President Saakashvili said on January 24 that he had agreed with Lavrov, during a meeting in Tbilisi on January 20, that the Georgian foreign minister visit Moscow.
