General Prosecutor to Become Chief of President’s Administration
Zurab Adeishvili, the General Prosecutor, who is to be replaced by ex-Justice Minister Eka Tkeshelashvili, will become chief of the President’s Administration, Aleksandre Lomaia, secretary of the National Security Council, said on January 24.
Adeishvili is a highly influential figure in President Saakashvili’s inner circle. The opposition has long been demanding Adeishvili’s dismissal from the General Prosecutor’s Office. The appointment of Tkeshelashvili, however, is not expected to meet with opposition approval. Tkeshelashvili’s record as Chairperson of the Courts of Appeals – a position she held until September 2007, when she became Justice Minister – is not appreciated by the opposition.
