EU Foreign Policy Chief Calls for Dialogue

Javier Solana, the EU foreign policy chief, told President-elect Mikheil Saakashvili in a phone conversation on January 16 that he ?strongly encourage[s]? dialogue with the opposition and civil society.

Solana congratulated Saakashvili on his re-election and also said: ?This is the moment to bring the nation together.?

?It will be important to create the right conditions before the early parliamentary elections in the spring,? Solana said. ?The European Union is ready to assist Georgia in moving forward towards the next elections.?
