Saakashvili Comments on Meeting with Gachechiladze

Incumbent candidate Mikheil Saakashvili has said his meeting with his main opposition rival, presidential candidate Levan Gachechiladze, was not aimed at making ?some sort of deal or trade-off.?

Saakashvili, seen as having won the election according to official results, commented on the exchange on January 11 – the day after Gachechiladze told reporters he had told Saakashvili that he would continue to insist on a run-off.

Saakashvili gave little in the way of details, instead concentrating mostly on the need for dialogue.

?We are open for dialogue and consultations with everyone,? he told Rustavi 2 TV. ?We are willing to create conditions to involve more people in public live and other national developments? I already said that we are willing to consider anyone, regardless of party affiliation, for any position. But this will not be a matter of deals between political parties. We should talk with individuals, regardless of their political views, and not with parties.?
