CEC Invalidates Four Precinct Results

Four precinct results have been invalidated by the Central Election Commission (CEC). CEC Chairman Levan Tarkhnishvili said, however, that the overall outcome – a narrow outright Saakashvili win – would be unaffected.

Precincts in Telavi, Tsalka, Mestia and one in the Tbilisi district of Saburtalo have been invalidated. “In the cases of Saburtalo and Mestia, local chairmen of respective precincts violated the law and took all polling day documentation… which was an obvious attempt to sabotage the election there,” Tarkhnishvili told the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB). “We have already asked the police to investigate these incidents.”

“In Telavi there was a case involving ballot box stuffing… and in Tsalka there was a scuffle and observers were not allowed into the polling station,” he said.
