‘Ballot Stuffing Suspect’ Arrested – Minister

A person who allegedly stuffed ballots into a ballot box at a polling station in Telavi, in the eastern region of Kakheti, has been arrested, Justice Minister Eka Tkeshelashvili said.

Tkeshelashvili, who chairs a government inter-agency group dealing with possible violations during the election, said that it was still unclear which candidate stood to gain.

“A man, by the name of Peikrishvili, has been detained and criminal charges have been brought against him,” Tkeshelashvili said.

She said the official response to the attempted electoral fraud demonstrated the authorities’ willingness and readiness to tackle such incidents.
