Patarkatsishvili Election HQ Chief Quits

Giorgi Zhvania said he has resigned as head of the Patarkatsishvili election campaign HQ, citing the tycoon?s decision to remain in the presidential race.

?I supported his decision to withdraw from the presidential race. Now this decision has changed and it is absolutely unacceptable for me,? Giorgi Zhvania, a brother of late PM Zurab Zhvania, told the Georgian Public Broadcaster on January 3. ?In his first statement [explaining his decision to withdraw from the race] Mr. Patarkatsishvili explained very well that the public had certain doubts [about Patarkatsishvili] and they should elect a person whose reputation was unquestionable. These doubts remain and nothing has changed.?

Patarkatsishvili retracted his earlier pledge to withdraw from the presidential race and said on January 3 that he would ?continue to fight on to be elected president.?
