Georgian Soldier Dies in Iraq
A corporal from the 3rd infantry brigade serving in Iraq, Jambul Mgeladze, died in a car accident on December 21, the Georgian Ministry of Defense said on December 24.
The accident happened in the city of Al Kut, where Georgian soldiers are deployed.
The MoD said on October 2 that another corporal from same brigade, Zurab Chigoshvili, committed suicide in Iraq. The death, according to the MoD, was as a result of personal problems and unrelated to his military service.
A total of 18 Georgian servicemen have been injured in Iraq since the first deployment in August 2003. Georgian troop levels in Iraq were increased from 850 to 2,000 this year. They are, however, due to be reduced to 300 next summer.
