Four Opposition Parties Set up Alliance

Four opposition parties – Freedom Party; Traditionalists; Party of Future and Party of Women for Justice and Equality announced on March 19 about setting up an Alliance for Freedom.

The group said it would join the protest rallies that is planned to be launched from April 9 to demand President Saakashvili’s resignation.

Freedom Party is led by Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, son of late President Zviad Gamsakhurdia; Traditionalists is led by Akaki Asatiani; Party of Future – by Gia Maisashvili, a former presidential candidate who garnered 0.78% votes in the January 5, 2008 elections; Party of Women for Justice and Equality is led by a former lawmaker Guguli Magradze.
