Minister Hails Voter Lists
Only ?a maximum of 1%? of part of voter lists, which have been compiled based on data by the Civil Registry Agency, possibly remain inaccurate, Eka Tkeshelashvili, the justice minister, told President Saakashvili at a cabinet session on November 24.
She was making an assumption based on data provided by the Civil Registry Agency, which is in charge of administering issuing of citizens? IDs and passports. This part of the voter lists is the largest one. Other part of voter lists are compiled based on date provided by the Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation ? list of internally displaced persons and by the Georgia?s consulates ? list of Georgian citizens who are abroad on the polling day.
?Arguments about possible inaccuracies are spurious,? Tkeshelashvili said.
President Saakashvili said in response: ?I have no doubt that we will not have any problems in respect of voter lists. But Georgia?s ill-wishers, including some electoral entities [referring to political parties] will try to create the impression [that there is a problem]. So we should not let any of them even question [the accuracy of voter lists]. So everything should be transparent.?
