Two Jailed and Five Fined for Assaulting Opposition in Zugdidi
Two men were jailed for 20 days and five others fined with GEL 400 after the court found them guilty of being involved in an attack on opposition activists in Zugdidi on October 28, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.
Two opposition lawmakers and at least two other opposition activists were attacked and beaten up by a group of young men in Zugdidi. The opposition has alleged that police officers were among attackers.
Sozar Subari, the Public Defender, said on October 29, that the attacks on peaceful protesters in Zugdidi have showed ?the authorities? intolerance? towards peaceful protest rallies.
