Sarkozy Raises Georgia Missile Incident with Putin
French President Nikolas Sarkozy raised the August 6 missile incident in Georgia with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, the daily Le Monde reported on October 10.
“I clearly said what I thought about the missile over Georgia; that it was not a good initiative – though not knowing who took that initiative”, the French president told Le Monde.
“I do not believe in the theories of a return to the Cold War” Sarkozy was quoted as saying “however, there can be tensions, irritations, nervousness, which would lead to decisions that would not be helpful for Russia, or for its partners.”
The paper interpreted President Sarkozy’s comments as an attempt to warn Russia about “off-limits miltiary actions” vis-a-vis Georgia.
