High-Profile Conference Planned in S.Ossetia Conflict Zone

The Georgian government is planning a high-profile conference in the Georgian administered village of Tamarasheni in the South Ossetian conflict zone on September 21 to discuss Georgia?s reforms and foreign policy priorities.

The State Ministry for Conflict Resolution Issues, which is charged with organizing the event, said on September 19, that foreign diplomats accredited in Georgia, including the Russian ambassador, Vyacheslav Kovalenko, have been invited.

The Russian ambassador?s participation is unlikely, however, as Dimitri Sanakoev, the head of the Tbilisi-backed South Ossetian provisional administration, is expected to address the participants.

Georgian cabinet members and lawmakers will also participate in the conference which will take place the day after the secessionist authorities celebrate the breakaway region?s independence on September 20.
