No Plane Wreakage Found in Lower Kodori ? Bagapsh Says

Aircraft wreakage has not been found on territory controlled by the Abkhaz side, Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh told Interfax news agency on August 25.

He said the lower Kodori Gorge had been combed by the Abkhaz side, ?but not even a single trace of a crash was found.?

Earlier on August 25, the Abkhaz authorities claimed that an aircraft had crashed in Tbilisi-controlled upper Kodori Gorge. They said it was a Georgian aircraft.

The Georgian Interior Ministry has confirmed that its forces fired ?warning shots? at an aircraft which violated Georgian airspace from Russia on August 22. The Ministry has sent a team to upper Kodori Gorge to investigate reports of a possible crash site.
