OSCE Chair’s Envoy for Missile Incident Visits Moscow
Miomir Zuzul, the special representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, met with officials in the Russian Foreign Ministry on August 23 to discuss the August 6 missile incident in Georgia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The Russian side briefed the OSCE Chairman’s envoy on its stance regarding the incident and acquainted him with the findings of the Russian investigatory group, which worked in Georgia to probe into the missile incident on August 16-17.
“The Russian side reaffirmed its interest in identifying the organizers of the August 6 provocation, which aimed at thwarting Russian-Georgian dialogue and at triggering the use of force in resolving conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The OSCE Chairman-in-Office appointed Zuzul, a former Croatian foreign minister, as his personal representative for this particular issue last week.
As part of his fact-finding mission, Zuzul also visited Georgia on August 20-21 and held talks with Georgian officials.
