EU Calls for Rapid Probe into Missile Incident
A rapid, thorough and independent investigation is needed in order to clarify and verify all the facts surrounding the August 6 missile incident, the Portuguese EU Presidency said in a statement on August 10.
It said that the EU was following closely the incident in which a missile was dropped close to the village of Tsitelubani near the South Ossetian conflict zone. It called upon all parties involved ?to abstain from any action that could lead to an escalation of the situation.?
Unlike the U.S. State Department, which unconditionally condemned the ?rocket attack against Georgia,? the EU position is considered to be more guarded and cautious.
