New Chief of Adjara’s State Audit Agency Appointed
The Supreme Council, the legislative body of the Adjaran Autonomous Republic, appointed Levan Kiknavelidze as the new chief of Adjara’s Chamber of Control – the local state audit agency.
The appointment was made not without some political controversy. Opposition figures from the Republican Party said Kiknavelidze was unqualified for the position, alleging that he had falsified his university diploma.
Kiknavelidze dismissed such suggestions, saying they were “insulting.”
The new chief of the state audit agency in Adjara previously served as an aid to the head of Adjara’s executive government, Levan Varshalomidze. He also served as the chief of the local Financial Police.
The appointment is part of a wider staff reshuffle, following Levan Choladze’s appointment as the head of Georgia’s Chamber of Control in May. Choladze, a close ally of Foreign Minister Gela Bezhuashvili, has been actively reorganising both the national and provincial audit agencies since then.
