Saakashvili to Deliver State of the Nation Address

President Saakashvili will deliver his third annual state of the nation address to the Parliament at 6 pm local time on March 15.

The informal format of the annual presidential address changed in 2005, when President Saakashvili refused after his second state of the nation address to stay in the Parliamentary chamber after his speech and listen to the opposition?s rebuttal. This has been a source of protest from the opposition lawmakers since then. This year the changed format triggered at least two opposition lawmakers, Kakha Kukava and Koka Guntsadze, to boycott the presidential speech.
