NATO Rejects Abkhaz Elections

NATO does not recognize ?so-called elections? in Georgia?s breakaway Abkhazia, NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said on March 5.

?You know, as I said before in the other so-called ‘referendum’ or ‘elections,’ I do not consider these of any relevance because… the NATO allies are strongly committed to the territorial integrity of Georgia,? Scheffer said while speaking at a news conference after talks with Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Mirek Topolanek in Brussels.

The EU and the United States have also rejected parliamentary and local elections in breakaway Abkhazia held on March 4 and February 11, respectively.
