Talks Planned in Moscow on Resumption of Air Traffic

Georgian transport officials and executives of Georgian air carriers will visit Moscow on February 5-6 to negotiate with Russian officials about the possible resumption of air traffic between the two countries, acting head of the Georgian transport regulation agency Alexander Chkhikvadze said on January 25.

?The major thing we should discuss is to launch flights? All the Georgian air carriers are ready to launch flights ten days after Russia gives the official go-ahead,? Chkhikvadze told Georgian television stations.

Russia cut air, sea, land and railway links, and postal communication with Georgia on October 3, 2006 ? one day after Georgia released four Russian military officers accused by Tbilisi of espionage.

Meanwhile, Levan Koberidze, chairman of the Georgian Winemakers? Association, said on January 25 that the Georgian wine producers want to meet with Russian Ambassador to Georgia Vyacheslav Kovalenko as part of their attempts to resume exporting Georgian wine to the Russian market.

Russia banned imports of Georgia wine in March, 2006, long before the spy row with Georgia, citing health safety concerns.
