Chief of the Georgian state-run Railway Company Irakli Ezugbaia is in Baku on January 23 to discuss the technical details of a regional railway project that will link Azerbaijan with Turkey via Georgia.

Azerbaijani and Georgian officials signed an agreement on January 13 in Tbilisi, according to which Azerbaijan will loan USD 200 million to Georgia to finance the construction of its portion of the Baku-Akhalkalaki-Kars railway.

A 29 kilometer-long section of railway will be constructed on Georgian territory from Akhalkalaki to the Turkish border, and a 192 kilometer portion of already existing railway infrastructure in Georgia will be rehabilitated in the frames of the project.
